For today's article I am going to be giving responses to thirty arguments pro-choicers give for defending abortion. Now I understand that this is a sensitive topic and I just want to start off by saying that can understand a woman's fears about raising a child in today's age. Even though I am not a woman I know it can be financially tough to raise a child. I also know that raising kids demands alot of time and attention. I may not have children of my own yet however I do believe the scriptures that children are a blessing, and that most parents wouldn't trade the time they have with their children for anything. With that all said let's address these pro choice arguments.
1. It's not a baby, it's a blob of cells
This assume that it's only a blob of cells. By the same definition so are you! We are just a bigger blob of cells. Using that same logic we could justify killing anyone. The size of the human doesn't determine the amount of their worth. Basketball ball players aren't intrinsically more valuable than dwarfs. Man is made in the image of God therefore it is a sin to shed his blood (Gen 9:6).
2. It's not a baby. It's like cutting off a finger.
This assumes that a fetus is no different than a finger. Someone's finger won't turn into a human given enough time. A finger is just your DNA, it doesn't have a unique genetic fingerprint.
3. It's Ok to kill it because it doesn't have brain activity for 3 months.
Does this mean that (God Forbid) your mom was in a coma for three months as a result of a head injury that it would be ok to kill her? Of course not!
4. It doesn't have past memories therefore it's okay to abort it.
Would it be okay to kill your mother if she had amnesia? Nope.
5. It's no different than a woman's period or a man ejaculating.
Life begins at conception.
6. It ain't a human until it's born.
This assumes location determines humanity. There are times when a doctor temporarily removes the fetus from the womb to perform surgery on it and then puts it back in. Does that mean that it becomes a human but goes back to being nonhuman once put back in the womb. That's absurd.
7. It's a zygote, not a human.
This assumes that the label we give an organism actually changes the creature.
As created beings we are constantly changing, the level of development one is currently in doesn't determine their humanity.
8. Pro-lifer's are hypocrites they eat plants/eggs.
Assumes plant's and animals have the same worth as people, this is contrary to (Luk 12:7). Also assumes killing a baby for convenience is the same as killing plants/animals for survival.
9. Pro-lifer's are hypocrites they are pro gun.
Assumes all pro life advocates are pro-gun. Also assumes having a gun is used solely for killing innocent people and not self defense. Self defense is justified by scripture (Luk 22:36).
10. Pro-lifer's are hypocrites, why not save all life and not just human life.
Assumes all life is equal. If it's wrong to kill any life we couldn't eat anything. If it's not wrong to kill any life, then you could kill anybody. Scripture dictates than man may kill and eat animals (Acts 10:13).
11. It's my body, my choice!
It's not her body, the baby has it's own heartbeat, DNA, etc.
12. Don't tell a woman what to do with her body.
We should if she wants to use it to kill herself or others.
13. A woman should have a choice.
Most women (approx 80%) get abortions because they feel that they have to, that they don't have a choice. To this I say a woman should have a choice to keep her baby.
14. What about cases of rape/incest?
This occurs in only 2% or less of abortions. Don't kill the innocent baby for the sin of the father (Deu 24:16). This assumes the child's life is less valuable in these instances. What if you found out that the child was the result of rape a few years after it was born would it be ok to kill it then. There is always adoption.
15. No one should be forced to have a human living inside of them.
Since 98% of aborted children are the result of consensual sex no one was forced to carry them. When you have unprotected sex you are giving your consent to that possibility.
16. Don't like abortions, don't get one.
That's like saying don't like stealing, don't steal. Keep your views about stealing to yourself.
17. I wouldn't do it, but I wouldn't tell anybody else not to do it either.
If you don't think it's wrong, then why wouldn't you do it? If you do think it's wrong then why wouldn't you warn people?
18. A man can't talk about abortion.
This is the genetic fallacy. It's when you try and discredit the source in order to attack the argument. Last time i checked it takes two to make a baby.
19. If you'r anti abortion then you should take care of the kid yourself.
Assumes that there aren't pro life organizations out there that do that already.
Try saying that after the child is already 7 or 8 years old, will you kill them if I don't adopt them.
20. Not everyone has the same moral values, no one has the right to impose their morals on others.
This is a hypocritical stance as that is exactly what you do when you say that.
21. A fetus has no rights according to the Law.
Slavery and Segregation used to be legal too. So was the Holocaust, does that make them moral? No.
There is still God's moral law which must be upheld (Exo 20:13, Mat 19:18, Rom 13:9).
22. There's nothing wrong with it. Who are we to say what's right or wrong?
Statement cancels itself out.
23. If you make it illegal, women will put themselves in danger and do it anyway.
It is not our responsibility to control every action people do. If people want to be irresponsible and get pregnant out of wedlock that's their choice. Likewise if they choose to go outside the law to get an abortion, even though I disagree with her choice the most I can do is warn her of the consequences of her decision and share God's love.
24. It's not killing, it's preventing the creation of human life.
If it's not human life then what is it? When does it become human life?
If someone kills a women with child then why is it considered double homicide. In today's culture it's only considered a human if the woman wants it. That's not right. You might want to check out
(Exo 21:22-23).
25. It's ok to do because they can't feel pain until their central nervous system develops.
By that reasoning it's okay to kill people in coma's, under anesthesia, or that have the genetic disorder CIP.
26. Kids would be happier if their parents wanted them, therefore abortion is ok.
Not wanting a child doesn't make abortion ok. Alot of parents feel that way about their kids at some point when raising them. Many kids are unhappy growing up does that make it ok to murder them? No!
27. It's better to die in the womb that suffer from a deranged mom.
That's an assumption, plus why do we get to decide that for them?
28. Abortion is better than a mental disability.
Mentally handicapped people are not less worthy to live as a person with a fully functioning brain. Many do lead happy lives.
29. It's better for society if a child isn't born into poverty and unleashed into our economic system.
This assumes that it is better to kill a human than to have it depend on society. Those who hold this kind of position has a very low view of human life.
30. Shouldn't have a child if you can't afford it.
I agree that you shouldn't have a child if you are not prepared for it. However this does not justify murder. Isn't this also kind of a faithless statement though, as christians we are to trust in God not money. Child sacrifice is condemned in the Bible! (Lev 18:21, Lev 20:2, Jer 32:35).
