Problems with the Hypothesis of Modalism (Updated)

In this article I will attempt to explain why I don't hold to the belief of modal-ism and why I think it is un-biblical. I will be going over forty verses that I think refute this idea.

So what is Modalism? Modalism is the belief that the Godhead is not comprised of three persons but just one individual that changes roles at different times. In other words it is the rejection of the trinity doctrine. It is my sincere hope that the reader will slowly read and go over these passages and deeply consider which doctrine makes the most since concerning these verses. Either God is 1 person or 3 Persons.

Now let's go over some verses that I believe refutes the idea of modalism.
I may add bold and underline to add emphasis on some passages.

Verses in the Old Testament

Gen 1:26 Here we have God saying Let us make man in our Image. I used to think who is God talking to? Angels? God has to be talking to himself in the plural because only he made man, the angels didn't make man.

Psa 2:8 "The LORD said unto my Lord,..." Interesting.
Psa 110:1
Prov 30:4 "...who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell? "
Dan 3:25 Pre-incarnate Jesus still referred to as Son of God
Dan 7:13-14 Here we have Jesus (Son of Man) being brought before the Ancient of days (another title for God?). How can modalism account for God being brought before himself, it's illogical if he is just one person.
Isaiah 48:16 Another classic trinity verse.
Zechariah 3:2 "...the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee..." Interesting

The Trinity in the Gospels

Mat 20:23  "And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father. "
Thus Unitarianism is false or Jesus is a liar.
Mat 27:46 Here we have Jesus stating My God, My God why hast thou forsaken me? Is he talking to himself as Modalism must suppose? How can God forsake himself?

Mar 1:9-11 This passage has all three members of the Godhead present at Jesus' baptism. How can this possibly make sense under the modalistic or unitarian theology?
Mar 3:28-29 We see from here than only blasphemy against the Holy Spirit carries never forgiveness.
Mar 13:32 Father knows the day but not the Son.

Luke 22:42 indicates two different wills that of Jesus and that of the Father.

Joh 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 5:22 Father judges no man but commits all judgment to the Son. How is that not a contradiction under Unitarianism?
Joh 5:31-37 and Joh 8:16-18 show two witnesses Jesus' witness and the witness of the Father, this indicates two persons. Jesus also states that he is not alone....how can that be?
Joh 14:23  Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
Joh 17:5  And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Modalism Refuted in the New Testament

Act 7:55- 56 here we have Stephen's testimony that the Son of Man (Jesus) was standing at the right hand of God! (Mat 22:42-44, Mar 16:19, Luk 22:69).
Act 10:38  How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Rom 8:34 Not only is Jesus at God's right hand but he also intercedes for us, he is our  mediator (1Tim 2:5).

1Cor 15:28 here we have the Son (Jesus) being subject unto God, how can Jesus be subject to himself if  Modalism is true?

Eph 3:9 and Heb 1:2 Why would these passages be worded this way if God is just one person?
Philippians 2:9-10 So God is exalting himself?
Phm 1:3  "Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ."
Statements like this are all throughout the New Testament, how many can you find? i.e The Father and Jesus, or God and Jesus, etc.
Heb 5:4  And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
Heb 5:5  So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
Heb 5:6  As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
If God was only one entity shouldn't it read I am a priest for ever...
1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
2Pe 1:17  For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
2Pe 1:18  And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
So he gave to himself?
Rev 3:21  To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Rev 5:7  And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
So in conclusion we see that Modalism is a heresy that Christians should reject.

Note: My apologies, i previously stated in this article something like this could be used to refute Unitarianism. After looking it up Unitarianism deny Christ's divinity, so this article may not be as usefual as i originally thought for exposing that heresy.
